Module Aims
To help students attain the Advanced level of written English in order to be able to participate in undergraduate courses at a university. It is to improve and develop students’ general reading and writing skills· to widen students’ vocabulary range and improve their mastery of grammatical structures and functions in English. It further develops students’ awareness of appropriacy and register in relation to their use of English
Module Objectives
On successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:

Use effective reading techniques in order to follow and understand the main points in a variety of authentic reading texts.

Use a good level of linguistic knowledge in order to express themselves coherently in a wide variety of written text types

Plan and organise their writing effectively

Have a good command of a wide range of vocabulary so that effective written communication can take place in a broad range of situations
Module Contents
Using a variety of academic listening and reading texts, students will be given extensive practice in all four skills in an integrated fashion. However, in this module particular attention will be paid to the development of academic listening and speaking skills. Specific strategies for dealing with academic texts effectively will be focused on and students will be encouraged to refine their ability to display their knowledge effectively. Students will reflect on their current study skills and exam preparation techniques and encouraged to experiment with alternative techniques and approache
